Colorado Mesa University is a public four-year liberal arts institution with a B.S. program in Mathematics. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach undergraduate mathematics courses. Applicants should have a background in Applied Mathematics and an ability to teach courses such as Mathematical Modeling, Numerical Analysis, and Methods of Applied Mathematics.
Grand Junction is located in beautiful western Colorado, where the moderate climate permits a variety of year-round outdoor recreation activities. The city and surrounding area, located midway between Denver and Salt Lake City, with a population of approximately 150,000, serve as the economic hub of the region.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The primary responsibility of this one-year position is to teach undergraduate mathematics courses. However, the following are additional duties and responsibilities expected of faculty. Provide service to the department, university, and profession. Complete professional development activities. Serve as a mentor for student research projects and activities. Maintain an active program of scholarship. Provide student academic advising and evaluation. Perform other program and department level duties as assigned. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities. Scholarship in the discipline, involvement with advising and service to the department and profession are expected. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics from a regionally accredited institution; ABD considered
Experience in teaching undergraduate mathematics courses
Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching
Effective communication and organizational skills
Applicants should have a background in Applied Mathematics.
Preference will be given to candidates with excellent communication skills, a record of outstanding teaching of undergraduate mathematics, and the ability to teach a variety of upper level courses that serve mathematics majors as well as service courses for non-majors.
Evidence of dedication to scholarship, particularly in the mentoring of undergraduate research, and a commitment to service activities will help further distinguish the applicant.
