Research Associate, - Ref:1638648
The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 - £37,936 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work with Dr. Lauri Oksanen on the project "Inverse problems for hyperbolic partial differential equations". The project has both theoretical and computational components and the Research Associate can choose to focus on one these aspects, or work with both the aspects. The main theoretical objective is to show that the inverse boundary value problem for the wave equation has a unique solution in the fully coordinate invariant context, and the computational objective is to develop a new computational method for this problem (possibly in a more limited context). The responsibilities of the post will include: carrying out high-level research into one or both the aspects of the project, interfacing with other team members, and submitting publications regularly in refereed journals and participating in national and international conferences.
Candidates should either have a PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics, should be finalising their PhD or waiting for their viva date. The successful candidate is expected to have some expertise and research experience in inverse problems, analysis of hyperbolic partial differential equations, or numerical analysis. Candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral. Knowledge of aspects of inverse problems or control theory for hyperbolic partial differential equations, and finite element methods or related topics in numerical analysis, as well as proficiency in scientific programming is also desirable.
