The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 - £35,938 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position to work with Professor Helen Wilson (Mathematics) in collaboration with Professor Panagiota Angeli and Dr Luca Mazzei (Chemical Engineering) and Dr Stavroula Balabani and Dr Manish Tiwari (Mechanical Engineering). This post will be funded by a £2 million EPSRC project on Complex Oral health products (CORAL): Characterisation, modelling and manufacturing challenges. The aim is to introduce fundamental new insights into complex oral health formulations, using as an exemplar non-aqueous pastes, and to overcome the related high-impact manufacturing challenges. The project is a collaboration between the UCL departments of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering and of Mathematics and harnesses the synergy between experts on mathematical modelling, numerical simulations and advanced experimentation at micro and process scale. The project is supported by GSK, Xaar and the Centre for Process Innovation.
The responsibilities of the post will include: carrying out mathematical modelling (using theoretical and numerical techniques) of the behaviour of complex fluid systems incorporating solid particles, gas bubbles, and a non-Newtonian fluid matrix; submitting publications regularly in refereed journals; participating in national and international conferences; and translating research findings across disciplines, into forms suitable for use by colleagues in Engineering and in direct collaboration with industrial scientists.
This post is funded for 3 years in the first instance.
Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent on having been awarded a PhD. If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £29,809 - £31,432 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
