Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics

The Albert Nerken School of Engineering at The Cooper Union invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Mathematics at the assistant professor level starting in the Fall of 2018.  Qualified candidates from all areas of pure and applied mathematics are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.  The department encourages applications from early-career mathematicians with an engaging research program that can foster student interest in the discipline and related fields.  The successful candidate will be fully involved in the departmental course offerings for the engineering disciplines, our minor in mathematics, and advanced independent study and research electives.

The Cooper Union was founded in 1859 by Peter Cooper, who believed that an education “equal to the best technological schools” should be accessible to those who qualify, independent of race, religion, sex, wealth or social status, and should be “open and free to all who felt a want of scientific knowledge.”  Today, the institution focuses primarily on undergraduate education in engineering, art, and architecture.  The engineering school is its largest division, with a continuous full-time enrollment of approximately 500 students majoring in chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
